Little Aces uses the basics of Quick Start Tennis. With this type of tennis everything is made easier for your child. We have made the courts smaller and the nets lower. We have made the rackets smaller. We also use foam or very low compression tennis balls so it is easier for your child to hit the ball. When young players use regular tennis balls, this often times gets very frustrating because the ball goes over their head.

THE RACKET
For anyone to succeed in tennis you need to have good racket control. If a child plays with an adult size racket they will have trouble controlling the racket. For kids under ten, most full size rackets* are too heavy, too long, and the grips are too big for their small hands. This is why it is important to make sure your child has a racket that is proportionate in length and weight, and with a grip that is their size.
- 8 and under players should use rackets 19 inches long, 21 inches long, or 23 inches long.
- 10 and under players should use rackets that are 23 inches long or 25 inches long.
Ideally a racket should be one inch off the ground when the child is standing straight holding the racquet down by his or her side. If you have questions about the racket size for you child please contact us and we will help you.
*Please note that an adult full sized racket is 27 inches long.

THE BALL
It is important that kids learn to play tennis with a ball that is in proportion to their size. A regular tennis ball moves very fast, is very heavy, and bounces too high for a young child. This is why at Little Aces Tennis we use different balls for each class and corresponding age group.
- For 8 & under we use a foam ball or very low compression ball that are slighly larger than a regulation tennis ball, and also moves slower and bounces lower
- For 10 & under we use a low compression ball that moves through the court faster than the ball used with the younger kids, however the bounce is still lower than a regulation ball
